There are a few things you will notice about the blog. First, the cigarette timer is missing. I tried to update my countdown timer and it restarted both timers. Ugh. So I removed it. The other timer is now counting up my days of unemployment. I have been in the dumps since last Wednesday, but I am slowly pulling myself out. My job defined who I was in my community. I don't know how to act. I am grieving. I have a ton of ideas and tasks swirling around in my head and I don't know quite how to begin. What have I done so far this week?
- Yesterday I filed for unemployment and I went to class.
- I called to have some old, broken down furniture and other unnecessary items removed. The haulers are coming today. The company is only going to charge me $35 because I am a friend of the owner's mother.
- I scheduled my criminal background check and testing at my graduate program. I have been putting this off and it has to be done by August 15th. I go in tomorrow at 10.
- Today we go in to the YMCA and get signed up. I have been waiting to do this until I am unemployed because we will get a scholarship.
- We are also going bed shopping for Ray today.
- There is no word on the house I told you about the other day, but I am keeping my options open.
- On Thursday and Friday I will work for the landlord and clean two apartments. I hope to take at least $200 off next months rent by doing this.
Ray has been attending therapy once per week and taking guitar lessons. I don't know how much it's helping...On Saturday we are headed to Cleveland for an overnight and visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We are also attending the Burning River Fest which is a two day music food, and environment fest commemorating the burning of the Cuyahoga River. My friend Sarah is coming with us and will split all of the costs. It will be our big summer fling!
On to the Weekly Money check-up courtesy of My Pretty Pennies:
1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on groceries. I can't keep up with these boys! They eat constantly!
2. Today I am thankful for my wonderful blog family and friends. There are days that I feel like a total loser and you always lift me up.
3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was going to our summer arts festival with the kids and watching a Beatles tribute band. The band was fabulous and even wore the Sergeant Pepper costumes!
4. I will consider this week a success if I manage to get through my assessment test tomorrow. I hate math!
5. My favorite cuisine to prepare is Italian. I grow lots of basil every year and we love to make pesto and bruschetta.
I have one more paper and one more test for the history classes that end this week. Next week begins another and I hope to be all caught up by then. Whew!
Today's random photo is one of my mother, Shirley (she was named after the little screen gem). She has done a lot for me over the years and though our relationship has always been a little difficult (one day I will tell you), I am grateful to have her in my life. The photo was taken by my daughter, Amanda. She has a new wedding posted on her blog today. If you have time to click through, she would love feedback.
Till tomorrow my friends...
Hugs,
Rita

Don't be so hard on yourself. I know it is hard. Things will work out. You are willing to work hard. Great on the apartment cleaning. This could work into something big.
ReplyDeleteRita,
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me, looking in from the outside, that you are doing pretty good for yourself, despite everything that has happened. Relax and enjoy this next phase of your life and the surprises it holds!! I know it sounds easy for me to just type this, but you are doing rather well with your circumstances. The apartment cleaning sounds like a great deal.
Out My window is right! Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember that plenty of people in this world will line up to do it to others, so you may as well be kinder than they. ;) You are an extremely resourceful woman and you're doing really well with this, or at least that's how it looks from this side. Maybe it would help you to go back to the beginning of this blog and read a few posts from that time. You've come a long way! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteJust when I am feeling at my worst, you lovelies bring me smiles. I hope you know how much I appreciate all of your love and encouragement. I am going to get to work!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Rita
